OUR PROGRAM |
| |
| At Leo United Methodist Preschool,
we believe that each child is a unique and special individual who
will progress
at his/her own rate. We make every effort to develop within each
child a positive self-esteem. Our main goal is to see that
all the children feel good about themselves and that they enjoy their
first experience in a school setting. The students learn to become
more independent able to leave home for awhile and to do
things for themselves. They grow socially by learning how to relate
to other children and to adults other than their parents or guardians.
They learn to respect others and the property of others; to respect
rules; and to follow routines. |
Our
curriculum and activities provide for development in the following
areas:
Physical - Both small and large muscle development
through indoor and outdoor
activities
Emotional - Learning to express one’s feelings and learning
to control
own
behavior |
|
Social - Getting
along with other children; learning to care for others and to share;
accepting and respecting authority
Spiritual - Knowing that God has created each of them to be
special and important; that He loves us all unconditionally; and that we should
love and care for others. We stress the religious aspect of holidays, such as
Christmas and Easter. We do offer prayers at snack time. However, we do not teach
Methodist doctrine; we are non-denominational in the previously mentioned beliefs
we present. |
|
Language - Developing listening and speaking skills
Curriculum - In addition to the teachers’ classroom activities that relate
to the curriculum topics, we incorporate resource persons, special programs,
and fie trips to provide for further enrichment experiences. |
|
| Our main goal, then, is not academic achievements. Rather, it is
to provide a setting in which children learn to be with others, to
develop their attention
spans, to enjoy new experiences, to feel like capable, loveable individuals. |
